Controls Engineer Role
Position Overview: The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining control systems for industrial equipment, machinery, and processes. The role involves working with automation technologies, PLCs, SCADA systems, and instrumentation to ensure optimal performance and safety of manufacturing or processing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Develop Control Systems:
Create and implement control system designs, including PLC programming, HMI (Human Machine Interface) development, and SCADA system configuration.
Develop and optimize control algorithms for various machinery, equipment, and industrial processes.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to control systems, automation, and electrical systems.
Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and debugging of control systems to ensure minimal downtime.
· Project Management and Implementation:
Lead or assist with the planning, design, and execution of control systems for new or upgraded projects.
Coordinate with other engineering teams, vendors, and contractors for timely project delivery.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations.
· System Integration and Testing:
Integrate new control systems with existing machinery and process equipment.
Perform system testing and validation to ensure functionality and performance meet the specified requirements.
· Documentation and Reporting:
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for control systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC programs, and user manuals.
Provide detailed reports and updates on system performance, issues, and improvements to stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and efficiency improvements within control systems.
Collaborate with engineering teams to improve system performance and cost-effectiveness.
Training and Support:
Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel on control systems.
Assist in troubleshooting and provide guidance for system operation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Proven experience in control system design, automation, and troubleshooting (typically 3-5 years).
Proficient in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.), SCADA systems, and HMI development.
Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, etc.).
Knowledge of safety standards and regulations in the industrial environment (e.g., NFPA, IEC).
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Must be able to work overtime and travel up to 50% of the time.
Most work will be done at the customer site.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with robotics, motion control, or advanced automation systems.
Familiarity with industrial networking and cybersecurity practices.
Master’s degree or advanced certifications in related fields
